his eyes go wide for a moment, caught off-guard by that, and he has to swallow hard before he manages to bring his leg up and kick skylark in the solar plexus to put some distance between them]

[he didn't expect that kick, and he goes stumbling back with a surprised grunt, coming to a halt right next to his discarded tonfa]

[he doesn't even glance down as he steps down hard on the edge of the handle, causing it to flip up in an arch so he can catch it with his bad hand. he only grimaces slightly at the action before he focuses back on his opponent]

[ooh, fancy. fox grins and lets out a "heh" before he dashes at skylark, going for a lunge instead of a slash this time]

[Skylark won't wait, he'll dive in to meet Fox half way, bringing his tonfa around in a wide arch against Fox's attack]

[fox realizes at the last second what skylark is going to do, and he adjusts the aim of his sword to go for skylark's hip--but ends up being unable to avoid the hit from the tonfa, which lands and makes him cry out in pain]

[going for a second blow almost immediately, this time aiming it at his side]

[he takes the hit again with a grunt, but in response he swings the sword up in an upward arc, enough to cut his inner arm if it connects on the way out. these two are looking pretty bruised and bloody by this point]

[he lets the cut hit, not without letting out a hiss in pain. but he doesn't back down, this time keeping a tight grip of his tonfa as he swings it at Fox's face, even as blood is trailing his arm down to his wrist and fingers, and his movement in that arm is a tad slower than the other.

[panting roughly as he struggles to block each swing, some of them missing, and retaliating when he can--an occasional cut to his shoulder or neck--but for the most part he's gone on the defensive]

[a cut to his neck has him stumbling back, bringing his arm up to brush against it, eyes narrowing at Fox]

You are injured. We are both injured. We should stop.

[rubbing at his arm, which is moving awkwardly, like the impact moved it out of the socket]

Of course not. But if we continue at this rate we are liable to kill each other. So I am calling for a truce.

[narrows his eyes]
